Day 8ish - plethora of fasted cardios and lackadaisical gymming

Image
Lost count of workout days.. Had a lackluster past weekend with a mild case of FOMO. Had to study for test and also help my students study for theirs as well. Furthermore, since I worked out on and off throughout this week, my shower schedule was off and adding onto the mismanagement of my time I slept a tremendous amount. Zzzzz I wish I could carry over the excess hours I sleep. I saw this fact somewhere and thinking about the amount of time we spend sleeping fascinated me. 25 years if you sleep 8 hours on average. haha wow. So if you're 75 years old, you only really have 50 years of life experience :P, since 25 years were spent sleeping like Sleeping Beauty. so.. although I have been working out throughout the week but not as diligently as I would've liked, I'll call today's post Day 8 of workouts I am still penguin waddling around from two days ago when I did 10x10 volume training on squats. woo! Although I had a great squat session, I was pretty irrit...

Curls for the Girls

Image
I've kind of been obsessed with wanting a nice, cut back.. in addition to trying to grow my glutes and shedding stubborn belly fat while trying not to lose my God-given nicer mounds of fat above. I want so many things T_T. Does that make me a motivated, goal-oriented, go-getter? Yes yes, let's just say that instead of labeling me as someone who isn't satisfied. So, I started doing the Macros,IIFYM, Flexible dieting thing. hahah hype?? I'm not sure, but so far my body is going well with this uncertain flow. I've also been eating 1500+ calories when before I would unintentionally be eating below 1200, sometimes even eating at around 1000 (unintentional! I've just been eating 'clean food' that were not caloric-dense therefore I was always full). Now I have more carbs in my diet and I'm loving it! Anyways today's workout for Back and Biceps (did it in fasted condition): assisted pullups, chinups, dips one arm lat pulldowns closegrip la...

30 days of working out

First Day of JULY Today when I realized today was the first day of a new month, I told myself I could do 30 days of workouts.. dang it I didn’t work out today, but I realized there’s 31 days in July! Mustt work out tmw and not let myself skip a day I’ve been so busy, but I’m going to try posting what I eat (mostly low carb and keto diet and some moderation) and what workouts I do (strength and cardio) Day 1 (I actually didn't post) Had an exam for my online course but walked on the treadmill for fasted cardio while reading my notes. My favorite way to review notes. I feel like walking helps your mind be more awake, but maybe that's just my logic. Actually I feel really guiltless when I get to watch Netflix while on the treadmill :D I mean I'm being productive! Day 2 an hour to kill Today I had a little more than an hour to kill after an exam and before lab. My new friend asked me if I wanted to check out a taco place near campus, but today I was motivated to fit in a cardi...

Soybean Milk Protein smoothie

Image
This is what I drank after my Leg workout. The day before my mom boiled soybeans and then we put them in the blender and gave them a whirl. (we had Korean Kong Guk Su - Soybean cold noodles) So with some of the leftover soybean milk mixture I decided to incorporate into a smoothie. +frozen blueberries +fresh squeezed orange juice +strawberries +chia seeds I'm trying to add chia seeds to my daily routine because for nutrition-wise, they contain a lot of fat and protein and not much carbs. Also for that reason they also can help curb hunger. This would be useful in a keto/low carb diet since there's not much carbs (in your diet) to keep you full longer. :)

I could probably talk about my Leg Day in memes

Image
Oh man I gotta mentally prepare myself for LEG day. Wear the right clothes, fully charge phone for music, find some fitspiration and think about BOOTY #operationgrowabooty Also hope to catch Ryan Gosling at the gym Yesterday I went to a cafe and got one of their  Intelligentsia coffees . It was so strong (& delish!) I felt slightly buzzed. Needless to say it was perfect for LEG DAY and I went HARD at the gym. However I couldn't fall asleep til 6 am the next morning..  Ps, I don't usually drink coffee and tea (unless I water them down) and I most definitely restrict myself from drinking caffeine after 3pm simply because I actually stay awake. Why do people (Ahem bros) suck at re-racking. The only comfort I have to having to take off all the plates is that it's extra energy expenditure and I guess I'm still "lifting things and putting them down." Ryan Gosling fitspiration/motivation. Self-explanatory. Oo...

AestheticDianasaurus trying Intermittent Fasting?

Image
I've always seen it mentioned in the fitness world, but never really looked into it thinking it's just a hype or the next new fad. But I came upon a blog from LiveLifeActive  and it was very informative and a great starting point for anyone who is curious. I'm sorry in advance, I really think in bulletpoints and it's like a visual map for me. So this is going to look like an outline Research I came upon to convince me  Fasts are everyday and your days consist of "fasting periods" and "eating periods" which is a certain amount of hours each day to eat. Fasts are to give your body a break a majority of the fast is during sleeping hours This is LiveLifeActive's IF schedule 16 hr Fasting/8 hr Eating Fast: 9pm - 1pm (skip breakfast) *take 10-15g BCAAs 15 mins preworkout Gym: 12-1pm (hit gym right at end of fast) Eating period: 1pm-9pm BCAAs/Protein right before the workout is to prohibit chance of any muscle breakdown during workou...

Yesterday I learned that ginger is a diuretic

Image
I'm sure everyone knows ginger is good for you, but don't know exactly how it's good for your body. Personally I didn't know either but I just saw some ginger hanging out in our fridge and decided to make honey + lemon + ginger tea. And I've been peeing all day. At the beginning of the day I thought it might be the coffee making me use the bathroom so much, however finally by the latter part of the day I realized the culprit may be ginger. It is. Ginger is a diuretic. I've also learned some more key reasons to continue to use ginger and I'm loving all of them! Fights cancer, specifically ovarian cancer. And the American Cancer Society promotes ginger as a cancer treatment 'to keep tumors from developing.' Helps with irritable bowel syndrome - calming effect on our digestive system. I definitely need these for presentation days.. Slows down loss of brains cells (typically seen leading to Alzheimer's) Relieves/recovers muscles (useful ...

Situps

Image
Omg that walrus can do situps and I can't.... werk that core! I also want to be able to do this, why are situps so difficult!

slight pet peeve

Yesterday I had a good workout but it ended on a "meh" kind of note. It was good cause I was wearing two sports bra and they were thoroughly soaked >:) Chest, Shoulders, Tris 3 x 15 DB shoulder press 15 DB lateral raises, superset 10 pushups. Do 3 sets 3 x 15 tricep extensions 3 x 15 cable crossovers Butt while waiting for the squat rack... cause some dude likes to look at his phone and sit on the actual bar whilst waiting in between, weird. 10 plie squats followed by however long you want to jumprope (with DBs) Do 4 sets Squats 4 x 10 increasing weights each time Deadlifts since I went up to 95 lbs last time, I decided to start with 95 today. Cake! did about 10 reps (eventually) and then added 5 more pounds (not much difference!) was going to make it 105 lbs BUT THEN while I was in my Dianasaur-mode, some dude came up to me and I asked me how many more sets I had left. I never ask anyone how many sets they have/or how much longer they're going to be o...

Deadlifting high

Image
This past weekend I had one of the best workouts I have ever had because my best friend came to visit me and there was finally someone who pushed me with my workouts. I asked him for a regimen that'll target our backs and butt so it consisted of sprint walking on a "hill," lunges, squats, deadlifts, lat pulldowns, pullups, pushups, and leg raises. I was definitely sore for the next two days. I am so glad of this workout because I was able to show myself how much I can push myself and how much I can endure and achieve. Our workout lasted two hours and although I was relieved it was over, I felt like maybe, just maybe, I could've done more; well, to the point of pure fall to the floor exhaustion. With squats I was able to do 95 lbs but was a little too scared to do more. (my squats before were with 25 lb plates only :P) And for someone who never deadlifted because she was scared of hurting her back, I was able to do two sets with 95 lbs. Though it may not be much ...

I'm so bad with temptations :D

Image
Just got asked if I wanted in n out.. can't refuse Saw a bag of chips on the table, had a few. handfuls.. Discovered 4 cartons of ice cream in freezer. Actually refrained myself! This is why I never buy junk food! Anywayss, I've been pretty busy and drained the past three weeks. Got to travel back to norcal to visit my awesomely cool friends for July 4 and time just passed by so quickly. Ate relatively healthy and did Insanity 85% of the days there. Then rushed back home via Amtrak with basically everyone and their moms and their families the Sunday after and found out I'm returning my car for another. And finally BAM waking up at 6 am every morning for school. It's been 1.5 weeks and I'm gradually warming up to my new 'family.' There are two girls that I seem to click the best with, but I most definitely have an easier time befriending guys. "WE NEED MOAR DUDES," as my guy friends would say. I got you guys, I'm recruiting. So my sche...

Was I missed?

Image
I didn't have internet for the past week because we thought our router was broken. Turns out actually there was a problem with the modem and the satellite. A technician finally came and made everything back to normal and I'm a happy clam. Glad I no longer have to look at my phone screen for internet stuffz. Seriously #firstworldproblems though not having internet and foxfi only alloting you 5 minutes of wifi :( My friends make fun of me for being kind of homebody, introvert-like, too lazy to go out girl. But I finally came out of my introvert cave and the past week has been quite filled. June 12 & 13: brother's birthday celebration He adamently chose Din Tai Fung for his birthday dinner, so my family and I went there. MMM! the soupy wontons were my favorite. I do not understand however how Chinese people are skinny! Everything is so sodium-fied, doughy, and carby. Must be all the jasmine and green tea they drink? I love tea, but I have banned it for the time-being...

Friday & Saturday 6/7 6/8: Cardio bunny - insanity

If you follow this blog, you might realize that I try to find sources of protein that are more natural and healthier than protein powder (and cheaper as well) healthy, protein, soybeans, soy, powder, nuts, protein powder, natural, organic, korean,  Usually my source of protein for post-workout is tofu in a smoothie. But one day I noticed my mom had bought this and decided it would be a good source of protein! :D If you're Korean, you may recognize that this is the powder that coats dduk (rice cake). To make this powder I believe the soybeans are roasted til they are browned and then grinded. And we all know soybeans are good for you! Here's a link to make your own, it's the same process and essentially the soy milk powder in this link is the same roasted soy bean powder that I'm talking about: http://www.ehow.com/how_8462889_make-soy-milk-powder.html So before I substituted this powder for my protein intake I did a very tiny bit of research and comparis...

some pledge ey

Image
Monday 6/3 I forgot what I did that day, but I know I ate healthy all day except for dinner, when we grubbed at In n out. X.x for some reason everything was just salted so much and I eventually got a food coma and while browsing on my phone I drifted off to a deep slumber. JUST DON'T LIE IN BED EVEN FOR A BRIEF MOMENT so I already broke my pledge on the second day hehe That is fine, live another day Tuesday 6/4 : BEWBIES day 4 sets of 12 db flyes medicine ball pushups db bench press cable crossover cable press down and 20 minutes high intensity cycling. I was so flustered and caught off guard but what an ego boost :D though I very awkwardly said I'm not looking and ran off *herpderp* ...

For a latecomer... going to gym late for classes is a lose-lose situation

Image
Most of the classes that I'm interested in are scheduled at the busiest time of the day (at the gym) which is usually from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. I try to keep Monday evenings open just because my gym offers 'boxing boot camp' and you get your ass kicked in that class. Today I realized my sweats were all gone so I was looking all over for them so that I can wear them over my short, short workout shorts in the freezing cold. So.... I was too late for that. Therefore, I waited for the cycling class, but apparently you need tickets from the front desk to claim a bike. Boo. Had to motivate myself to go on a bike and do my own HIIT cardio on it. Was going to run on treadmill or go on stairmaster but of course they're all taken! SEE, lose-lose for me since it's so busy I can't go to class and the rest of the gym is packed like sweaty sardines. Though there is one silver lining: eye-candy be it women or men. Evening is the optimal time to see some cuties. Don't ask ...

Happy New Year's Eve baby

Image
This past weekend was my birthday. Sometimes I forget how old I am, but I swear I'm not even that old! I just want to be forever 21 and have older people envy me for my youth and the 'carefree' days. So my best friends from norcal came down to celebrate with me and one of them I haven't seen since late July. What the, that's all from Insanity? Girl you're too tiny now.  He swears I used to be a whale -___-.. but he's really being dramatic Haha because I still fit my clothes (tops s/m and bottoms 0-5) just a little less filled, however.. both a good and bad thing. Here's the most recent picture of me from my birthday; it doesn't showcase my figure too much but that's the best I have of that night. I've actually gained 5 pounds from the lowest I've surprisingly gotten. Let it be muscles? These days I don't even look at the scale, because the best measurement of your health is your mentality and how you feel in the morning. I a...
I think one factor that was really difficult in starting this blog was choosing a title. I hope whoever encounters this blog has a sense of humor and will not expect me to have an aesthetic body (or not just yet?), because in fact this blog is to motivate me into trying to achieve that proclamation. I am but a humble, curious, genetically disadvantaged (or so my excuse is) young woman just kind of in her early-mid-20's striving to basically have a beach ready body 24/7 in the very near future. Also, the title is based on my realization that there aren't very many fitness blogs written by Asians. I've been searching through tumblr, bodybuilding, muscle and strength but to very little prevail. It seems to be white people dominated. (Ok, don't take me as a racist because I am not. I am a Korean-American but first and foremost I identify myself as an American, a southern californian living in the suburbs because I do not know how to exist anywhere else. You can't plac...
