20 days left: Happy Mother's Day!

Image
Well, every day is Mother's day , so I hope you remember to treat your mamas (& papas) with respect and love everyday!! Treat them to something delicious or better yet, make them a meal filled with so much love and thought. And instead of making up excuses and complaining, go with an open heart to answer their favors and help with errands. Our parents do so much for us. I only hope that with each day, we try to comprehend all their sacrifices, passion, and devotion to our families. What you know about meal prep Sunday?? With that said, this Sunday (Mother's Day 2016!) I had marked to be the day that I start dieting more wholesome and low carb !  So... my goal is to have 3 or less "cheat days" in the next 20 days. Oh man, it's going to be kind of hard to have low carb snacks ready on hand. But these are some quick bites I consider easy and convenient to make: hard-boiled eggs nuts, fruits protein waffle/pancake greek yogurt ham and cheese rol...

12.22 Day 2 - BEWBS

Image
Tuesday 12.22 Workout : -fasted pushups and ab wheels while watching  Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life -lift sesh - CHEST day: smith machine bench presses SS pushups Machine bench press barbell bench press cable chest flyes cable back flyes assisted dips sprint & incline treadmill HIIT 2 mins slowing down HR on stairmaster Diet : -black hazelnut coffee -earl grey tea -1/2 cup of white rice (or less), tofu soup -greek yogurt, blueberries, 1/2 banana, chia seeds, mint ice cream -protein shake -tri tip steak with greens & leftover tofu soup Musing : I really don't like chest days and my manfriend makes fun of me for my hatred of it. Unfortunately with age and also with the loss of fat, my bras are less filled than they used to be. If only I had abs, it would be a more fair trade-off! Regardless, it is time for me to stop being afraid of chest days and embrace a new area that I can try to gain/sculpt.. The workouts must've been pretty...

Action Plan and Day ONE

Image
Action Plan until NYE There's about 10 days left til the new year. I just started my winter break so I finally have time to catch up on life; plan and create my own meals; and go do ALL the workouts! Feels nice to have this down time to be proactive and hopefully productive. Ideally, I'd like to exclude all carbs out my meals, but knowing me, I like to nibble on rice and definitely like to indulge in fruits and ice cream alike. So my "diet" will be mostly lowcarb-keto but I am allocating complex carbs in the morning and possibly a bit of tempting ice cream/bars only post workout. Good guidelines? Me thinketh! 12.21 - Day ONE of working out and dieting Workouts : -Fasted BBG wk1 Arms & Abs -30 mins cycling class + 10 mins stairmaster = 525 calories -Sauna stretch Diet : -black hazelnut coffee (mmm!) -greek yogurt, mint ice icream, frozen blue berries, black berries, granola, chia seeds -stir fried cabbage, onion, red cabbage & rotisserie chicken ...

Summer body: Week 1 - Friday & Saturday

Image
On Friday, I was just way sore from doing deadlifts on one day and squats the day after. I think I get D.O.M.S (delayed muscle onset soreness) a little later so surprisingly doing my workouts on this split was totally perfect. I know muscle soreness means that "I'm making gainz" but it's not pleasant when walking around; I feel that I walk around stiffly like a robot. SO, I searched up on how to treat D.O.M.S. or make it go away more quickly. Intake more protein - helps with muscle synthesis and accelerates the healing of muscle fibers Foam rolling afterwards - promotes blood flow especially to the area of injury/muscle tears/inflammation I think these two "treatments" may have sped up my recovery! So I'm ready to start week 2 STRONG :). Originally, I planned to workout Saturday morning since I allowed myself a rest day on Friday, however, I think my body needed the rest... slept 12 hours on and off. How you do dat?  :O This is the brand...

Week 8 - Monday

Image
I'm going to try to input my calories and macros through myfitnesspal and just put up my food journal on here. LOL don't judge my random meals. And also even though my calories may not be "a lot," I eat intuitively and eat when I'm hungry. Also, yesterday's Monday, I woke up a bit late - a little before lunch time. That is why I only had 2 meals. Workout:  Fasted Kayla Itsines Week 10 Monday - Legs Mondaze are hard; have to get back to the weekly grind! Let's make the last week of February great! + saved my carbs for an evening beer o:)

Saturday & Sunday - 19 days left

Image
Saturday On this day I decided to try out Cellucor Super HD . haah why not, I wasn't planning to go anywhere. I don't know how to describe the effects of preworkouts. Do I say the "come up" was kind of sudden? Or the energy "hit" me a bit intensely in the beginning? haha I'm just kidding. It did make me jittery and a little sick in the beginning. Also made my heart beat faster or maybe some anxiety kicked in. Soon enough however it tapered off and I had a decent cardio session. I think it definitely gave me some energy but was not very long lasting as I had anticipated. I did notice that my hunger and appetite was suppressed for a while (I was mildly starving when I woke up in the morning) but hey, this girl's appetite is never really gone :). I ate fine after my fasted workout. Hehe, I think I have 2 abs that are trying to pop out.. but they're a bit fatty. I'll take it though, progress is still progress ^_^. On this Saturday I also f...

Low Carb & Keto ideas

Image
Halloween is in two weeks. Time to hone in diet and I know keto works the fastest for me. Wish me luck :( carbs taste even better when you restrict them *Breakfast option: fruits (I am not going to take fruits out of my diet, instead I will allot myself to have them in the morning) and/or protein shake -nuts -hardboiled egg -peanut butter Avocado, egg toast Chili cucumber noodles Wedge salads Cucumber roll ups Baked parmesan zucchini Cucumber chicken salad sub wrap omelet wrap Low carb sausage bake Bean sprout "noodles" SNACK: Blue diamond almonds. smokehouse flavor is my favoriteee This is such an awesome alternative to chips, albeit it is a bit salty. However I need some flavoring in my life since I kind of eat my food on the bland side. Sometimes I feel like I don't get enough electrolytes, namely sodium, in my diet. But then of course when you eat packaged food (like even sandwich meats) ...

Day 10 and Day 11

Image
Weekends are for indulgences , right? hehh because on Saturday I had carby Chinese food deliciousness for lunch, then late at night hung out with friends and ate a couple Trader Joe's lemon bars & wined on some pink moscato. and then on Sunday, I had Taiwanese breakfast for the first time! My friends ordered in Chinese but I believe we ordered: turnip cake, shredded pork rice roll, scallion pancake, shrimp omelette (it was pretty wet), pig in a steamed bun (pork belly was so soft), and to wash that all down, soymilk. Going on food adventures and having such a satisfying, delicious experience without spending much at all makes me Super happy  I knew once I got home after eating that satiating meal, I'd want to crawl onto my bed and watch Tv while relenting to the food coma.  So I dragged myself to the gym for Day 10   (Sunday) workout: -Did more SQUATS because my glutes were not hurting from Saturday's sesh. Did my damn volume training! -Leg Abd...

It takes about 21 days to establish a habit. I still am trying to establish my current daily routine, so I can't wait for the post " Day 21:" !! :D Drank Lemon Cayenne powder + Lemon + cinnamon (new addition that I kind of like), then made a fresh cup of black coffee and brewed uncaffeinated peppermint tea Checked out Insanity's Cardio Recovery and wanted more cardio. Baked egg portobello mushrooms

Image
mm yumm. I looked in the fridge and saw portobello mushrooms so I looked for recipes on pinterest. baked eggs portobello This one intrigued me the most and I chose to do a variation. If you love mushrooms on pizza,  this is such a great low carb substitute! I had to break my yolk because the mushroom cups weren't deep enough. Then I chopped red peppers, jalapeño,  and red onions as my veggie toppings. Also added cheese of course :P' Currently, I am a bit caffeined out because I drank black coffee earlier. Too hyper to drive safely so I am currently doing pushups and ab wheels while tumblring

Sweet tooth and Salt craving

30 days of working out

First Day of JULY Today when I realized today was the first day of a new month, I told myself I could do 30 days of workouts.. dang it I didn’t work out today, but I realized there’s 31 days in July! Mustt work out tmw and not let myself skip a day I’ve been so busy, but I’m going to try posting what I eat (mostly low carb and keto diet and some moderation) and what workouts I do (strength and cardio) Day 1 (I actually didn't post) Had an exam for my online course but walked on the treadmill for fasted cardio while reading my notes. My favorite way to review notes. I feel like walking helps your mind be more awake, but maybe that's just my logic. Actually I feel really guiltless when I get to watch Netflix while on the treadmill :D I mean I'm being productive! Day 2 an hour to kill Today I had a little more than an hour to kill after an exam and before lab. My new friend asked me if I wanted to check out a taco place near campus, but today I was motivated to fit in a cardi...

Soybean Milk Protein smoothie

Image
This is what I drank after my Leg workout. The day before my mom boiled soybeans and then we put them in the blender and gave them a whirl. (we had Korean Kong Guk Su - Soybean cold noodles) So with some of the leftover soybean milk mixture I decided to incorporate into a smoothie. +frozen blueberries +fresh squeezed orange juice +strawberries +chia seeds I'm trying to add chia seeds to my daily routine because for nutrition-wise, they contain a lot of fat and protein and not much carbs. Also for that reason they also can help curb hunger. This would be useful in a keto/low carb diet since there's not much carbs (in your diet) to keep you full longer. :)

Pre planning workouts and meal is really effective!

Image
Day 1 - LEGS, BUTT Did Fasted imaginary jumping rope while entertaining myself with Grey's Anatomy, then promptly headed to the kitchen. I woke up today craving a waffle and was so keen on making one. However, I saw that my mom had left Dried Pollock soup (Bugeoguk) in the pot and mmm, I can't just NOT eat her food. This soup is very simple but quite filling with the egg drop and some brown rice swirled into it. Yum. Apparently Bugeoguk is aka "hangover" soup in Korea. I did not know that! *sigh* I kind of pushed back my gym time and arrived at the gym around 3:45 pm. It was busy already and the bros took over the weights area. what I ended up doing for my workout: -10 min stairmaster -25 lb plate lunges 4 x 16 steps -Hip thrust 30 lbs 4 x 15 -Abductions 4 x 20 This just means that tmw's workout will be KILLER since I'll be making up for today's and also doing tmw's as well. Ahhh will definitely drink coffee before heading to gy...

Rice Paper spring rolls

Image
Spring rolls are quite easy to make and they look so delectable! They are also healthy (depending what you put into them: lots of veggies most likely). I think I will continue to pack these for lunch boxes :) I used this rice paper and to make 5 spring rolls it's ~120 calories and 29.5 g carbs (not including meat and vegetables). Not bad at all. You can change up the vegetables and meats each time too: carrots cucumbers spinach lettuce cilantro avocado onions bell peppers red cabbages sprouts jicama tomato no meat tofu sausage beef chicken fish/canned tuna The sauce I like to use is hoison sauce + sriracha + a little bit of warm water. Sometimes I add peanut butter as well. Yum

Friday & Saturday 6/7 6/8: Cardio bunny - insanity

Image
If you follow this blog, you might realize that I try to find sources of protein that are more natural and healthier than protein powder (and cheaper as well) healthy, protein, soybeans, soy, powder, nuts, protein powder, natural, organic, korean,  Usually my source of protein for post-workout is tofu in a smoothie. But one day I noticed my mom had bought this and decided it would be a good source of protein! :D If you're Korean, you may recognize that this is the powder that coats dduk (rice cake). To make this powder I believe the soybeans are roasted til they are browned and then grinded. And we all know soybeans are good for you! Here's a link to make your own, it's the same process and essentially the soy milk powder in this link is the same roasted soy bean powder that I'm talking about: http://www.ehow.com/how_8462889_make-soy-milk-powder.html So before I substituted this powder for my protein intake I did a very tiny bit of research and comparis...

another homemade 'protein' shake

Image
omg why didn't I think of using tofu in shakes before?? I sometimes love to just eat raw, silken tofu  because it's kind of like pudding... Tchh who needs protein powder anyways. I love this more natural alternative! < In this smoothie for my post-workout: Pineapples, strawberries, banana, 1/2 cup of tofu and some water. Delicious =) Happy Dianasaur The first two links are more information about tofu as protein source in smoothies and the last link is a recipe for a chocolate/tofu milkshake! http://www.livestrong.com/article/182441-how-to-make-your-own-gym-protein-shake/ http://www.livestrong.com/article/85985-make-protein-shakes-protein-powder/ http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/2012/09/12/chocolate-protein-milkshake/ healthy, gym, fitness, workout, protein, proteinshake, cheaper, natural, smoothie, post workout, fruits, strawberry, pineapple, banana, tofu, soy,

Homemade Protein Powder!

Image
I recently ran out of protein powder so I started looking up possible substitutes. BLACK BEANS! Haven't tried out this powder yet, but excited I have all the ingredients at home already and don't have to shell out money for protein powders, they're quite pricey.. Also feeling better because this time I know exactly what I'm putting into my body instead of wondering what that amino acid-protein-lab synthesis information is all about :) Step 1 : 1 tbsp each of dried soybeans, oats, brown rice, and black beans to coffee grinder. Soybeans and black beans are protein-rich but strong flavored, whereas brown rice and oats have less protein and will mask the stronger taste of the soybeans/black beans,  (soo.. I'm assuming everything is dried) Step 2: Grind until flour-like consistency. Add Ins: 1/2 of a vanilla bean and 2 tsps. each of maca powder and spirulina.   Can add chorela, matcha, wheat grass powder, raw cacao powder, etc Step 3: Keep protein powd...
