Be merry, eat & drink

Image
I am probably not the best 'fitness' blog because I eat often and drink once in a while. Gotta enjoy life right? Currently, in Los Angeles and surrounding areas, there is a restaurant event called DineLA happening. It's basically when high-end restaurants have a set menu for lunch/dinner and have 'lower prices' than usual to cater to the more general population. Or basically, it's a yearly (or bi-yearly) occurrence that foodies look forward to so that we can indulge ourselves. I also yelp quite devotedly.. so this is my guilty pleasure >:) On Friday, I went to Fogo de Chao , a Brazilian bbq steakhouse in Beverly Hills that serves all you can eat different assortments of meat... And they also have available a salad bar. Oh my god, gluttony. I didn't stuff myself, and also chewing meat for a while makes you tired of eating. But my plate was more or less fully stocked the whole time I was there because the servers were really good at coming around

Jamie Eason's DAY 1

Image
Phase 1, day 1  (link to her page and video on bodybuilding) This is day 1's workout. I did this workout 3 days ago, and I was really sore for 2 days! Going to get those muscles :D If you read my previous post, I talked about how Jamie Eason barely does cardio and that I'm going to attempt to do her 12 week weight program because I want to be toner and leaner.

When you're out of time because you're a lag like me

I have a bad tendency to push back working out especially when it's late at night. Then it gets too dark and too late and I am too scared to go out into the cold darkness and venture out to the gym. Such was my case yesterday night... Therefore, I decided to do Cassey Ho's Off the Wall 2012 POP pilates mashup. Omg my thighs and core were burning. I also did a quick pump of my upper body with pullups, pushups, and lifting weights in that 'starting lawnmower' motion. Finally, I just danced around and tried to move around my jiggly abs :( Hahah Lately, I've been feeling mushy and jiggly. I haven't gained any weight but my body still feels so 'soft'. I've looked through instagram for motivation and found Jamie Eason's LiveFit trainer . She talks about how she rarely does cardio but really focuses on weight training. She gave the analogy of people doing so much cardio at the gym as 'hamsters on the wheel'. I myself absolutelt hate cardi

Boxing Boot Camp

Image
I had a dream few days ago about a family member being kidnapped and being conned into having fake guns as a test by the gangsters. Moral of the dream: I must go learn self-defense so that I won't feel as helpless and weak as I did in that dream. I want to be able to roundhouse kick someone just like in the movies you watch of badass girls. Anyways, that was kind of a digression from my title: boxing boot camp Every Monday I look forward to this class at my gym because the instructor is so good at making you push yourself. You know the instructor is good if the class is disgustingly filled up! Every time I take this class, I am sore for two days. And the best part is that the workouts differ just a little each time. Maybe one day I'll be confident enough to be in the front so that I can see myself in the mirror and check my stance. Except I don't like people looking at me... (I certainly choose some people in the front to look at because they keep up with the wor

Jenn Im's advice on being healthy

It's a constant effort for everyone:  clothesencounters took over a year for her to lose the weight and maintain it take a picture of everything you eat/ that conscious effort curb your carbs eat proteins, veggies, fiber = fill you up try to make one meal a day completely carb-less/ wean yourself off, there are addicting components remix your meals (ie: 1/2 ramen with more veggies, tofu, etc) add more nutrients don't count your calories water is your best friend exercise:  blogilates  !

I've been going downhill to be honest

Image
I've been so sluggish these days, probably why I haven't updated, probably why I didn't have the urge to blog. What a vicious cycle. Though I have been eating moderately and healthy, so that's good, or else I'd most likely be ballooning up.. (even more) I really must get back on the grind because in two weeks I'm going to Porter Robinson concert and in five weeks I will go find my heart in SF . I also went online shopping at Pacsun because they had 50% additional from their clearance T_T oh gluttony. Doesn't online shopping for clothes make you a little nervous because you're not sure how well they'll fit on your specific body? Luckily, in my opinion, I think pacsun's chosen companies have around the same sizing charts so I'm usually on point with the sizing. We shall see! And here's a pretty picture that doesn't do this place justice: Sturtevant Falls in Sierra Madre, CA It's such a casual hike though relatively, slig

Be a sport, lets play with words

We are sad that we are a 'party of one' in this cold California weather Only continue if you have a sense of humor and understand this is all for jest  Me : party of one is cold P :  party of one is no bueno. Craigslist to look for some cuddy buddies (jk ewww) Me : T_T "looking for cuddle buddy. Down for whatever happens next. Spooning leads to forking ;)" P : hahhaa perfect description     A/s/l???? Me : you can put that in your description? Must be over 18 please. Or at least show me a fake ;) P : don't ask don't tell Me : That only works in the army...... don't think that'll hold up in court P : But your honor... if there's grass in the field you can play ball right?? Me : X.x You can still play tetherball without grass. Personally my favorite with hanging balls and poles P : I prefer baseball where balls go into gloves Me : I thought you'd like volleyball because more girls with short shorts can handle the ball :P        I

For a latecomer... going to gym late for classes is a lose-lose situation

Image
Most of the classes that I'm interested in are scheduled at the busiest time of the day (at the gym) which is usually from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. I try to keep Monday evenings open just because my gym offers 'boxing boot camp' and you get your ass kicked in that class. Today I realized my sweats were all gone so I was looking all over for them so that I can wear them over my short, short workout shorts in the freezing cold. So.... I was too late for that. Therefore, I waited for the cycling class, but apparently you need tickets from the front desk to claim a bike. Boo. Had to motivate myself to go on a bike and do my own HIIT cardio on it. Was going to run on treadmill or go on stairmaster but of course they're all taken! SEE, lose-lose for me since it's so busy I can't go to class and the rest of the gym is packed like sweaty sardines. Though there is one silver lining: eye-candy be it women or men. Evening is the optimal time to see some cuties. Don't ask

Waffle Sandwich: Breakfast for dinner

Image
Yesterday I was craving a waffle sandwich (Bruxie's actually) but didn't want to go out and eat in the cold or whatnot. And I also didn't shower and didn't want to accidentally meet people I knew. I always tend to see someone familiar when I'm not at the best, and then when I am dressed cute or to the nines, no one ever bumps into me. :( Life is ironic that way I also ran into the problem of no eggs and milk at home T_T Luckily google saved the day. I substituted bananas for eggs and just used water instead of milk. Interestingly  worked out fine! :D Though the waffle did have a hint of bananas... I made one for my brother as well and he said it was much better than Bruxie's. wow.... Future sandwich shop/cafe for me? :) I would love to own one actually. Waffle sandwich Make waffle, try to make it crispy tomatoes, spinach, cheese, turkey, bbq sauce, boysenberry jam, sriacha sauce, red onions I think my brother was just extremely hungry h

I feel old...

I haven't realized that I have not updated this blog in a few.. oops! I'm supposed to blog more often! Anyways, I've been just dancing around, you know while watching tv at home or making food. And kind of taking a break from the gym because I pushed it a little too hard couple of days ago. Hence my title, my back hurts a bit and I feel old :(. so here is my typical back workout routine at the gym: 10 minutes on the rowing machine assisted pullups 4 sets 10 back extensions 3 sets 15 (can add weights) 20 minutes HIIT jumproping with 2 lb weights in both hands It's relatively quick but works out efficiently, in my opinion :) I like to get the most 'bang for the buck' trying to make my workouts short but efficient!

If Jesse can do it, so can you!

Oversleeping

Image
I'm trying to become a morning person, alas, I'm just really not. :( Why a morning person? You know, wake up with the crisp morning air in your lungs/ Drinking a little tea and coffee with some toast/ Reading the news while listening to the chirping of birds/ Then hearing the morning rustle of the rest of the world, or your household, waking up. Nope, never was a morning person, ever. Though I can stay up all night without much trouble... hmm which is also quite an advantage sometimes. I love waking up because I slept enough. Often times, it tends to be about 10 hours or I wake up from texts that might be sent on my 9th/10th hour of sleep (I know.. I sleep a lot and my friends and family make fun of me for it). The best way to wake up is from a "Morning" text though! <3 I kind of cherish those, very much even though they're kind of a daily thing. I don't want them to stop Anyways, yesterday night I couldn't fall asleep even though I tried to r

Hachiya Persimmon

Image
Hachiya Persimmons are my current obsessions. At our house we have a batch of these oozy, ripe persimmons sitting on the kitchen counter because my mom absolutely loves them. I never really understood until she force-fed me some like an infant. Which is funny, because the texture of mushy persimmons is exactly like baby food, or what I believe it would be like so. It's like nature's dessert jam/jelly/pudding and it won't give you the runs! Tastes so sweet and you can't help but think you're indulging. Be adventurous, try it! And if you don't like the consistency or the idea of it, people often use the puree-ness of hachiya persimmons in pastries and other desserts. mmm, want one right now, but I'm trying not to eat fruits at night because I read somewhere that their fructose will convert to fat stored in our bodies...... I'm still not sure about that fact. Will try to look into that eventually Here's a great source about persimmo

Spontaneous Vegas Tripping

Image
With the promises of tickets to watch the Cirque de Soleil "O" show, I headed to Vegas. But before that I got dined at Shibuya in the MGM hotel. And I don't feel too bad about the calories because everything was quite light AND delicious :) Gotta live life right? Can't always be this spontaneous in the future.. So here's a picture summary of what I basically did with my very short-lived time at Vegas this past weekend : Omakase, and this is only one person's amount of food, although we shared and ordered rolls and sapporo on the side.   Tuna tartare First time eating raw, red meat... First time eating foie gras as well >< Got to spend a night in a penthouse suite     Saw a gorgeous sky on the drive back So I'm trying to get back on the workout grind. Did some abs yesterday (Monday) and today (Tuesday) went into a cycling class and now my thighs are throbbing! I had to force myself to c

Happy New Year's Eve baby

Image
This past weekend was my birthday. Sometimes I forget how old I am, but I swear I'm not even that old! I just want to be forever 21 and have older people envy me for my youth and the 'carefree' days. So my best friends from norcal came down to celebrate with me and one of them I haven't seen since late July. What the, that's all from Insanity? Girl you're too tiny now.  He swears I used to be a whale -___-.. but he's really being dramatic Haha because I still fit my clothes (tops s/m and bottoms 0-5) just a little less filled, however.. both a good and bad thing. Here's the most recent picture of me from my birthday; it doesn't showcase my figure too much but that's the best I have of that night. I've actually gained 5 pounds from the lowest I've surprisingly gotten. Let it be muscles? These days I don't even look at the scale, because the best measurement of your health is your mentality and how you feel in the morning. I a

Check off the New Year's resolution already!

Image
So today I was kidding around with my man friend: I'm going to workout hard to achieve my abs goal so I can get my New Year resolution out of the way, asap. haha genius! Then he retaliated saying that it was my resolution for years. JERK hahah! I've always wanted to get fitter and stronger, and I definitely achieved that losing 10-15 pounds (which I didn't realize I had to lose) and I am much more toned and skinnier. But I thought I'd have abs by now! THE BELLY FAT JUST WON'T GO AWAY, BUT THE BOOBS HAVE! So the next time I will see him will be sometime on a nearest three day weekend? Miss that man, lots. Today I did Insanity Max interval Plyo  in the morning and then later in the evening a cycling  class for the first time, in a long time. The interval plyo movie is my go-to insanity movie because I feel like this particular movie works out more 'total body' - your core, your butt, your arms. More bang for the buck I say. Cycling: I loved the instruc
I think one factor that was really difficult in starting this blog was choosing a title. I hope whoever encounters this blog has a sense of humor and will not expect me to have an aesthetic body (or not just yet?), because in fact this blog is to motivate me into trying to achieve that proclamation. I am but a humble, curious, genetically disadvantaged (or so my excuse is) young woman just kind of in her early-mid-20's striving to basically have a beach ready body 24/7 in the very near future. Also, the title is based on my realization that there aren't very many fitness blogs written by Asians. I've been searching through tumblr, bodybuilding, muscle and strength but to very little prevail. It seems to be white people dominated. (Ok, don't take me as a racist because I am not. I am a Korean-American but first and foremost I identify myself as an American, a southern californian living in the suburbs because I do not know how to exist anywhere else. You can't plac
