The Pain of Red (menstruation)
Another benefit for exercising? Pain relief. Natural human pain relief.
I'm quite fortunate in the fact that my monthly visits from the period doesn't usually bring about the unwanted pain and cramps. Actually the only discomfort I really get is more bloating and slight stomachaches that give me diarrhea (I think I would rather have that than constipation to be honest).
I remember in middle school I used to have searing pain that would make me double up and just fall to the floor cringing. But that was luckily very rare for me, and I know some ladies have it pretty merciless.
I guess I was pretty active in high school because of the stupid obligatory weekly mile runs in PE and also because I was on the swim team. So memories of cramps are very blurry.
And college, walking around everywhere to get around made me mildly active.. :)
However, I've had some obvious discomfort the past summer when I took a break from Insanity. I was shocked when I had cramps and I tried to stretch them out but your body just wants to fold over and rock the pain sensations away. I usually don't take painkillers (advil, ibuprofen, tylenol), but that day I gladly accepted one. That's when my friend asked me if I haven't been working out per usual. Apparently it wasn't just a wild guess and coincidence that they intermingled.
Why being active helps alleviate cramps:
I'm telling you, having healthy habits is what your body wants and needs. We don't necessarily need to vigorously exercise, but we need to be active and remind our bodies that we are alive and it can keep up with our lifestyle.
So the feel good endorphins we get from exercising actually counteract the prostaglandins (the chemicals that cause uterus to contract to deteriorate the uterine lining during periods, which also causes cramps if there's excess).
Just imagine working out as you shaking your body to get rid of that uterine lining. Therefore more workout, less prostaglandin needed to push it out for you ;)
If you're feeling lazy, also stretching out and doing yoga can help as well. There's an abundant means of yoga knowledge geared towards cramp alleviation just on Youtube. It's there specifically for you to look it up! :)
ps: HAHAHA at the game of thrones meme for menstruation!
I had a tubal July 2020 and have not felt the same since. I have horrible PMS for the entire week prior to my period, my cramping and bleeding is off the chart, migraines three times a week, hot flashes are starting. My doctor suggested getting an IUD...That was even worse DON'T DO IT!!! I have gained so much weight I weigh more than I was when I was pregnant last year. So I have been in search of weight loss and I did crossfit for 90 days with no results. Then a friend of mine introduced me to Dr Itua herbal center product and I was resistant at first but thought what the hell I will try it for 30 days. In 3 weeks time I have lost 8 pounds but the best part is some of my symptoms have gone away or are far less noticeable. I started my period three days ago and on day two I realized NO CRAMPING at all!!! Then I realized that the pms was not nearly as bad as it had been...There was no dull achy pain, no lower back pain, no deep depression, less tired. I just wanted to share this because I stumbled upon what seems to be a miracle. I will keep you posted as the months go on. I am so grateful and hope that everyone suffering can get the same relief I have found.
